What is an online vet visit?

Telehealth appointments have become a mainstay since the pandemic, but did you know you can also see a veterinarian online? A virtual vet visit allows you to connect with a vet via call or video chat from the comfort of your own home. Your vet will then assess if it’s possible to diagnose your pet remotely, or recommend in-person care. In some situations, vets may also be able to prescribe medication for your pets in a telehealth appointment.

It’s a common conundrum to want a quick gut check when your pet’s behavior gives you pause but you’re not sure if an in-person visit can wait. That’s where seeing a vet online comes in handy: you can get a second opinion on the urgency of your pet’s issue without the hassle of rushing your cat or dog to the clinic. (It’s an added bonus if you’ve got one of those pets who dreads going to the doctor.)

Virtual appointments can also be helpful for situations like behavioral consultations where a vet may not necessarily need to touch your pet, especially if the dog or cat is going to act differently in front of a doctor. Nutrition consultations for your pet can also be done easily via telehealth with a vet nutritionist or a specialist.
