What is cat insurance?
If your pet gets sick or hurt, cat insurance coverage can help reimburse you for treatment. Fetch offers the most comprehensive pet insurance coverage in the U.S. and Canada and pays you back up to 90%, making your vet bills more affordable. With Fetch, you won’t have to choose between your wallet and your best friend and it’s easy to give your cat the care they need to live their longest, healthiest, happiest life.
Why do I need health insurance for my cat?
Every 6 seconds, a pet parent is faced with a vet bill of more than $1,000. That doesn’t even take into account the rising cost of inflation, or the fact that veterinary medicine is getting better – and more expensive. Fetch pet insurance plans help give you protection from these increasing costs and peace of mind that’s priceless. From allergies to broken bones to cracked teeth, Fetch can offer coverage for a wide range of injuries and illnesses. As a pet parent with Fetch, you’ll be able to give your cat the care they need – without worrying about the full cost of vet bills.
What does cat insurance cover?
Accidents happen, especially if you have an adventurous pet that loves getting into mischief. You can’t predict when your cat will get stung by a bee or swallow a toy. But you can count on Fetch cat insurance to help cover the cost of care when the unexpected happens. We cover unexpected injuries ranging from cuts and broken teeth to ACL tears and bone fractures. If your pet needs surgery, you’re covered. And whatever your vet recommends on the road to recovery, from acupuncture to physical therapy, Fetch has your back.
We’re also here for you when your cat gets sick, with coverage for illnesses ranging from vomiting and diarrhea to chronic conditions like diabetes and cancer. Need to see a specialist? It’s covered. And unlike other providers, we even cover the exam fees, which can save you around $50 – $250 per visit. Below, take a closer look at some common cat insurance claims and how much Fetch can put back in your wallet.
When it comes to unmatched coverage, Fetch is the cat’s pajamas
Fetch doesn’t just have the most comprehensive cat health insurance — we also stand out from the competition with a plan that includes what other providers charge extra for or don’t cover at all.
Sick-visit exam fees
Every sick visit comes with an exam fee, which can be around $50 – $250. We cover those exam fees for you. Not all providers do.
Breed-specific issues
Not all providers cover medical conditions linked to breed, like heart disease in Ragdolls or dental disease in Persians. We do.
Boarding fees
We care about pet parents, too. Fetch covers the cost to board your pet at a licensed facility when you’re hospitalized for 4 days or more. You’re covered up to $1,000 per year.
Advertising & reward
If your pet goes missing, we want to help. Fetch covers the cost of advertising that your pet is lost and paying a reasonable reward for finding them. Your plan includes coverage up to $1,000 per year.
Name-brand prescription medications & supplements
We cover prescription medicines like antibiotics and insulin, as well as non-prescription vitamins and nutraceuticals, when they’re recommended by a vet to treat a new injury or illness.

Your cat insurance questions – answered!
When should I get cat insurance?
The sooner you enroll, the sooner your cat is covered. Fetch covers cats 6 weeks and older, but it's best to sign up before they need it. Like other cat insurance providers, Fetch cat insurance doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions. That’s why we recommend signing up as early as possible before health issues develop — so you and your best friend can live your best lives together.
What’s not covered with cat insurance?
Like other cat insurance providers, we don’t cover pre-existing conditions. This is any injury, illness or condition that occurs (or your pet shows signs of) before you enroll or during the waiting period of up to 15 days.
The good news is that Fetch is one of just a few providers that covers curable pre-existing conditions. Here’s how it works:
If your cat has an injury, illness or condition and then goes 12 months without signs, symptoms or treatment, that injury, illness, or condition is considered curable and is eligible for coverage.
Curable pre-existing conditions can include: UTIs, respiratory infections, vomiting & diarrhea and broken bones.
How much is cat insurance?
With Fetch, your cat insurance cost is based on your cat’s age, breed and location. From there, you’ve got options. Here are the different factors you can customize to make sure your price fits your budget.
Cat insurance terms — decoded:
Maximum annual payout
Your max annual payout is the maximum dollar amount you can be paid back each year. Choosing a lower max annual payout will make your price lower.
Annual deductible
Your deductible is the amount of veterinary care you need to pay for yourself each year before we can reimburse you for claims. So if your annual deductible is $300, you have to pay for $300 worth of approved veterinary care before we can start reimbursing you.
Reimbursement
Your reimbursement rate is the percentage of an approved claim total that we can cover. For example, if your reimbursement rate is 80% and you submit a claim for $500, we can cover up to $400.
How much does a vet visit cost without cat insurance?
The cost of vet visits without cat insurance varies widely and depends on factors like your cat’s breed, age, location and what brings you and your pet to the vet in the first place.
Let’s say your cat gets a urinary tract infection. Your vet bill would cost, on average, $616 without cat insurance coverage. Fetch covers up to 90% of your unexpected vet bills after you’ve met your deductible – in this case, $554 would be covered. Getting cat insurance helps your pet get the medical attention they need while also protecting your wallet from unexpected vet expenses.
Is cat insurance worth it?
If you’re looking for potential savings on future vet trips, the answer is yes. Cat insurance helps make vet bills more affordable, and you can rest easy knowing you’ll be covered if your pet unexpectedly gets sick or hurt down the road. But if you’re at the vet with a sick cat right now, bear in mind that your current visit won’t be covered because like other pet insurance providers, we don’t cover pre-existing conditions. Your cat will be covered for eligible claims once they’re enrolled and the waiting period has passed. Just another reason to sign up today.
