Jet set with your pet
These hotels don’t just allow pets, they pamper them (and you) in five-star luxuries.
When it comes to hotels, the term “pet-friendly” is evolving. It’s no longer enough to allow pets in. The best hotels now cater to them like the VIP (Very Important Pet, of course) guests they are. From check-in treats to room service menus exclusively for dogs and cats, five-star luxuries await you and your furry fam. So before you book your next trip, peruse this list of spots that serve up best-in-show amenities for your loyal companion (and you).
San Ysidro Ranch
Location: Montecito, California
Pet perks: Named the “number-one resort hotel in California” by Travel + Leisure, San Ysidro Ranch has hosted celebrity weddings as well as A-list honeymooners, including JFK and Jackie O, who have a suite named after them. We love this hideaway for its Pampered Pet Program, which welcomes dogs to stay at any of its 38 pet-friendly cottages, many with their own private yards. Upon arrival, pups receive a house-made cookie with their name on it in peanut butter, plush bedding and a water bowl. Your dog can even get in on the five-star hotel’s room service — there’s a special menu created just for them. Outside of the idyllic resort’s 550 acres, the greater area boasts hiking trails and dog-friendly wineries.
Pet cost: One-time cleaning fee of $150. Dogs of any size are welcome.
Royal Palms Resort and Spa
Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Pet perks: Your dog will dine in style at this resort, which provides a pet-exclusive menu with “chewdité” and a “rebarkable burger" among its offerings. A tennis ball, bowl and water also await every furry guest in any of the Royal Palms’ 119 rooms. Not sure where to start? The concierge will gladly assist with a map of the best pet-friendly spots on the property, as well as a curated list of nearby veterinarians, parks and pet shops. After a long day of exploring the grounds, your pup can rest their head on a plush, resort-branded dog bed while you unwind at the spa.
Pet cost: $150 pet fee for stays of up to six nights. For stays of seven to 30 nights, an additional $100 deep-cleaning fee is included. Pets (50 pounds and under) or two pets (75 pounds combined) are welcome.
Baker's Cay Resort
Location: Key Largo, Florida
Pet perks: If you and your pet are after Instagrammable views in a tropical oasis, we recommend this secluded 200-room resort. Dogs aren’t just welcome to join you for paddle boarding, swimming or sunset walks in the sand — they can lounge beachside at Baker's Cay in dedicated pet tiki huts with thatched-roof shading to beat the heat. All furry companions also receive a welcome kit that comes with a foldable silicone water bowl for easy on-the-go hydration and a cute scarf to keep your pet’s vacay style in check.
Pet cost: A $75 per night non-refundable pet fee will be applied to your stay, which covers up to two dogs per room. If you stay five nights or more: $150 deep cleaning fee will be applied every fifth night. Pets (maximum weight of 100 pounds) welcome.
Soho Grand Hotel
Location: New York, New York
Pet perks: Nestled between Manhattan’s boutique-lined downtown streets, you’ll find the Soho Grand Hotel, where five-star service, including organic treats, cozy dog beds, food and bowls will greet your pet and you. Your pet’s stay is complimentary and unlocks access to the Soho Grand Dog Park, a private sanctuary for furry (and human) guests. Designed by Rebecca Cole, amenities in this urban oasis include fire-hydrant water stations, bespoke benches, lush gardens and plenty of room for playing and luxuriating in style.
Pet cost: Complimentary.
Summit Lodge
Location: Whistler, Canada
Pet perks: Looking to visit Canada’s premier winter wonderland with your dog or cat? Summit Lodge is the top pick for pets (and their parents), especially because furry family members stay for free. The front desk staff will greet you and your pet with towels, treats, bowls and more — mention Fetch when you make your reservation, and your pet will get a special treat. Look out for the “VIP Dogs in Residence” board that lists the names of all the pups staying at the hotel, and ask the knowledgeable lodge staff to recommend dog-friendly adventures nearby, including off-leash parks and beaches, cross-country skiing routes and snowshoeing trails. They’re also happy to arrange local dog-sitters and walkers if you’re craving a little solo time.
