Brandywine Valley’s Bark on the Boards block party
Barks, beaches and boardwalks — what more could you want?
On October 16, 2021, Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) is hosting its annual Bark on the Boards block party event at the Rehoboth Bandstand, an area on the Rehoboth Beach, Delaware boardwalks. Guests have the chance to give back to BVSPCA’s lifesaving mission, while having a jam-packed afternoon of animal-themed fun.
“Essentially from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, there isn't a single second that isn't filled with some form of entertainment, and it's going to be really quite good,” Tanner Polce, chief advancement officer at BVSPCA, said.
Typically, the event hosts around 350 to 500 guests, but Tanner is hoping this year will attract 1,000 people. There are plenty of activities for guests to take part in, to name a few: a drag show, comedy show, pet costume contest, petting zoo, live music, local vendors for shopping and a Dock Dogs contest (where retrievers jump toward a toy in a pool and their distance is measured).
You can also meet shelter pets looking for forever homes. “For anyone who's looking to adopt, it's a great opportunity to come out, have some fun and potentially leave with a forever companion,” Tanner said.
While raising donations for the shelter, Bark on the Boards aims to bring the community together, too. “It does not matter where we are, we really want to be a member of the community,” Tanner said. “So, what better way to invite the community to join us to raise awareness of our critical lifesaving mission while giving the community a day of fun.”
