Your annual limit is the maximum amount of money you can be paid back every policy year. It’s a number that you pick based on your needs.
An invoice is the bill or receipt you receive from your vet after a visit. In order to file a claim, you need proof of a paid invoice. It should also be itemized, meaning it details exactly what you were charged for.
A medical record is a report from your vet that details your pet’s medical history. This includes exam notes, lab results and any medical information.
Co-insurance is the percentage of your vet bill that is not covered by pet insurance. So if you have a 90% reimbursement rate, your co-insurance is 10%.
An exam fee is the amount a vet charges just to see them. Often, pet insurance doesn’t cover these fees, which can cost up to $250. Fetch covers exams fees for every sick visit.
Preventive care refers to things like checkups, vaccinations, spaying or neutering and teeth cleanings. Basically, anything that isn’t related to an illness or injury. These vet visits are not typically covered by pet insurance.

Diagnostic tests
Laboratory and diagnostic testing, including specialized chemistry and hematology, are covered as long as it’s medically necessary.
Veterinary exam fees
We cover the cost of any exam conducted by a licensed veterinarian to treat or diagnose an ill or injured pet. Other providers don’t typically cover these fees.
Comprehensive dental
We cover injury and disease in every adult tooth — unlike other providers that only cover the canines.
Breed-specific conditions
Not all providers cover hereditary conditions linked to breed. We do.
Virtual vet visits
We cover up to C$1,000 in virtual vet visits.
Acupuncture
If acupuncture is recommended and performed by a licensed veterinarian, we cover it.
Imaging & ultrasound
Any imaging deemed medically necessary by a licensed veterinarian to help diagnose or treat your pet, including X-rays, MRIs, CAT scans and ultrasounds are covered.
Cancer treatment
We cover veterinary oncology care and cancer treatment.
Surgery & rehabilitation
We cover rehabilitation prescribed by a licensed veterinarian as part of a treatment and performed at a veterinary facility.
Hydrotherapy
If hydrotherapy is recommended and performed by a licensed veterinarian, we cover it.
Emergency & specialist vets
Emergency visits and specialties including surgery, oncology, cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, dentistry and neurology are covered.
Behavioral therapy
We cover up to C$1,000 for the treatment for any change in your pet’s temperament, activity or inactivity that is abnormal, dysfunctional or unusual for which there is no underlying medical condition(s). Behavioral disorders include, but are not limited to, aggression, separation anxiety or phobias.
Chiropractic care
If chiropractic care is recommended and performed by a licensed veterinarian, we cover it.
Pre-existing conditions
Any illness or injury that is diagnosed before your pet’s insurance policy is in effect will not be covered.
Routine & preventive care
Routine care procedures like checkups, vaccinations, teeth cleaning and spaying/neutering aren’t covered.
Cosmetic & elective procedures
Unless they’re deemed medically necessary by a veterinarian, cosmetic and elective procedures such as ear cropping, tail docking, declawing and dewclaw removal aren’t covered.
